Prestige Classes of Shakandara

DAWNBRINGER

The dawnbringers are an elite order of paladins and priests dedicated to the destruction of evil undead. Further, they seek to learn information regarding all undead, going so far as to even offer sanctuary to undead that are not evil. However, dawnbringers feel that undeath is an interruption in the natural cycle of life and rebirth, and will always seek to render aid to release any soul that remains trapped in a state of undeath. Such aid can take the form of simply destroying the vessel that keeps the spirit trapped in the mortal world, or may even go so far as to aid the undead in completing a task or fulfilling an oath to lay the soul to rest. At their core, the dawnbringers are good by nature, and therefore carry themselves with both a desire to defeat evil and the compassion to understand when direct conflict is not the best option. The Church of Auron officially sanctions and supports the dawnbringers, so while it is rare that worshippers of deities other than Auron seek to join the ranks, it can and does happen. However, such occurrences are rare, as one may enter the order of the dawnbringers only with the blessing of another dawnbringer of sufficient rank (5th level or higher as a dawnbringer).

Class Features:
+1 Caster Level: When a new dawnbringer level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, hit points beyond those he receives from the prestige class, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a dawnbringer, she must decide to which class she adds each level of dawnbringer for purposes of determining spells per day.

Turn Undead: Dawnbringers can turn undead as clerics do. A dawnbringer who also has levels as a cleric or paladin adds her dawnbringer level to her cleric level (or paladin level –2) to determine her effective level with respect to turning attempts.

Sun Domain: Upon adopting the dawnbringer class, the character gains access to the Sun domain, including its granted power.

Smite Undead: Once per day, a dawnbringer of 2nd level or higher can attempt to smite undead with one normal melee attack. She adds her Wisdom modifier (if positive) to her attack roll and inflicts 1 extra point of damage per dawnbringer level. If a dawnbringer accidentally smites a creature that is not undead, the smite has no effect but it is still used up for the day. A paladin/dawnbringer can smite smite evil and smite undead in the same day, potentially against the same target.

Strong Soul: At 4th level and higher, a dawnbringer adds a bonus equal to half her class level to all saving throws versus necromancy spells or death effects.

Invoke the Sun: At 6th level and higher, a dawnbringer can imbue one of her damaging spells with the sacred energy of the sun. It is a free action to invoke this power, and it must be used immediately once invoked. The spell inflicts 1d6 points of sacred damage per two dawnbringer class levels. The power can be used once per day.

Divine Wrath: At 8th level and higher, a dawnbringer inflicts an additional 1d6 of sacred damage to all undead she successfully attacks with melee or missile weapons.

Summon the Dawn: At 10th level, a dawnbringer can produce a sunburst once per day as a standard action. It performs as a sunburst is all respects and is considered to be cast at the character level of the dawnbringer.
